We want to give everyone a heads up that we will soon be discontinuing the HubPages eBay Program. The eBay Program represents only 0.2% of earnings on the site overall, and maintaining it requires a significant amount of work for the Engineering Team. The high level of maintenance the program requires, the fact that keyword-only products are more difficult to use appropriately, and the fact that the income from this program no longer covers the cost of maintaining it were the deciding factors in our decision to end our partnership with eBay. We know this news will come as a disappointment to many, but it is our hope that increased earnings from Hubs selected for the HubPages Network Sites will more than make up for the loss of eBay revenue for the majority of Hubbers who used eBay Capsules.
Starting today (August 10th), you will no longer be able to associate a new eBay Affiliate ID with your HubPages account, and you will no longer be able to add new eBay Capsules to Hubs. For now, existing Hubs with eBay Capsules will be unaffected and Hubbers who already belong to the HubPages eBay Program will continue to earn from them. However, remaining eBay Capsules will be automatically hidden on August 30th and removed altogether in mid-September. For those who wish to be proactive, we recommend getting out ahead by removing the eBay Capsules themselves, any in-text links, and mentions of eBay products in the text before the capsules are hidden. Don’t forget, you can always sort your Hubs by Capsule type in My Account> Stats> Filter> select a capsule.

Good riddance to them. Although I sold some ebay products, they weren’t worth the trouble and it seems very difficult to understand the process wherein we got paid. Amazon products work much better on my hubs.

Question: What about those of us who live in states where the Amazon affiliate program has been banned because of the dispute over internet taxes? Does this interfere with earning from the HubPages Amazon program?
I haven’t been on in a while, so I am just now seeing the news. I have not had Amazon capsules because of this ridiculous ban, leaving me with eBay as my only option.
The Amazon Program is not going to be altered in any way as a result of this change.

I have never had eBay on my hubs, because my happy and positive experience with early eBay changed over time, so am now grateful for that decision. Bravo Subpages.
This is crap. Removing the Ebay program is a greedy move by the site’s moderators. It hurts the authors and costs them nearly nothing. Absurdity at it’s finest. Thank you for finding a way to stop the modest amount of income I made through the time I spent writing on this site. Acting against the interest of the authors who built this site is pretty low, Hub Pages.
It costs us a great deal to maintain this program and we earn nothing from it whatsoever, and our top-earning Hubbers who use eBay do not even earn very much either.
It’s not even 1% of the site’s budget. You’re cutting 90% of my income from the articles I have written to save the site less than 1%. Looks incredibly greedy from where I’m standing.
At the time we discontinued it, our highest earning eBay authors were making less than an average of $5/month from this program. Perhaps you are getting the eBay Program confused with the Amazon Program? We have no plans to remove Amazon or the income it earns for authors.
